"Fetish equipment and alternative clothing market"
The London Alternative Market, established in March 2006, is London's first community supporting fetish fair. Held on the first Sunday of every month between 11am and 6pm, at The Clapham Grand, LAM provides a friendly and safe environment for adventurous, kinky and kink-curious people to meet, shop and socialise. Traders at this monthly London alternative fashion and fetish market sell a range of goods, from corsets to floggers, electro-stim equipment to 21st century bondage trousers. Jed Phoenix of London has had a pitch at the London Alternative Market, selling her unique brand of alternative clothing and kinky accessories, from its inception (only missing one month when she had an urgent commission from Blaze Bailey, formerly of Iron Maiden, who wanted some alternative clothing for his wedding).
"In support of the Spanner Trust"
Entry into the London Alternative Market costs just £4, £1 of which is donated to the Spanner Trust, an organisation that defends the rights of people who engage in consensual BDSM play. Master Cosmic, the organiser of the London Alternative Market is a trustee of the Spanner Trust, as is John Pendal who has made several appearances at LAM to talk about the Spanner Trust and the work it does for the kink community.
"More than just an alternative clothing and fetish fair"
As well as being a great place to shop, the London Alternative Market is also somewhere to watch stage demonstrations and educational workshops about all manner of kink and fetish related subjects. There is a monthly competition where you can win LAM cash to spend at the event, and a raffle for tickets to the after party. If you want to pop out to grab a coffee, meet friends from the mainline train station across the road or go to the numerous cashpoints, re-entry to the London Alternative Market is possible if you get a stamp from reception.
